Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements
An extension has been announced for the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements (BAC). The wage subsidy now applies to all eligible employers who sign up an apprentice or trainee before September 30th 2021.
The subsidy provides up to 50% of gross wages paid to a maximum of $7000 per quarter for each eligible new or recommencing apprentice or trainee in the 12 month period from the date of commencement or recommencement.
Employers already registered by signing up a new apprentice or trainee after the 5th of October 2020 will now also receive up to 50% of gross wages paid for the 1st full year.
BAC only applies to apprentices or trainees undertaking a Certificate II or higher and an employer is not eligible to receive BAC when they are in receipt of another wage subsidy such as Jobkeeper.
Changes to STP Reporting
From the 1st of July 2021 the exemptions for STP reporting will no longer be available to employers with closely held payees and the eligibility for the Micro employer quarterly reporting will also be changing. This means that employers with closely held payees must now report them through STP. There will be an option to report these payees each pay day, monthly or quarterly.
